Description

A calendar showing images of Dunblane in Central Scotland. Dunblane is a small town in the council area of Stirling in central Scotland, and prior to 1994 inside the boundaries of Perthshire.
It is a commuter town, with many residents making use of good transport links to much of the Central Belt, including Glasgow and Edinburgh. Known as the home of Sir Andy Murray who won the Men’s Singles Championship at Wimbledon in 2013 – the first British man since Fred Perry in 1936.
Situated a few miles north of Stirling, the town is believed to have been founded in 602 by the Celtic missionary, St Blane at a ford in the Allan Water. The town developed into a major stronghold of the pre-Reformation Church whose power was symbolised in the magnificent 13th century cathedral. Post-Reformation, the builidng fell into disrepair although restoration work carried out a century ago has now returned it to its Gothic splendour.

Now an established member of the “over 50’s Club” I started off using a film camera many years ago and I remember the anticipation awaiting the results from the lab. The cameras I used were handed down from my (late) father when he upgraded his own equipment. I remember using a Zorki and a Zenith along with a light meter to get the correct exposure. We also developed our own B&W images in a small cupboard under the stairs (no Harry Potter here!). I eventually bought my own camera – a Minolta X300 – in 1988 on Guernsey. Taking pictures using the digital medium was started with a Sony DSC-P9 then a Canon and Panasonic before I discovered the Fuji X-A1. I then upgraded to an X-T20. I currently shoot with a Fuji X-T3 with a multitude of different lenses. My gear comes with me (almost) everywhere I go. Fuji equipment found my love of taking pictures resurged. I have even recently dipped my toes into wedding photography when friends asked me to take some images of their wedding (Doug and Chiara – thanks!!) I did another when my brother and his fiancée tied the knot in August 2019. One of my images has been published in a small book after a competition on “Visit The Trossachs” Facebook page, two images were published in “Scottish Life” magazine in a feature on Bridge of Allan, several images have been featured in an international gallery organised by “Glasgow Gallery of Photography” in the Savoy Centre, Glasgow – another showing a rescue at the Monument was published by Press & Journal and (to date) 51 images available by licence on Getty Images through the website 500px. I hope you get some enjoyment from visiting my page and viewing my images..
